Temple Grandin on the Language of Animals

This is the clip I mentioned in class in which Temple Grandin (an autistic yet brilliant doctor of animal science and professor at Colorado State) discusses how animals perceive the world. This clip is from a panel discussion that I attended at the CT Forum in Hartford a few years ago. Earlier in the talk, she compared the way autistic people perceive the world to the way animals perceive the world. After you view the video, consider the way she describes animal perception, and compare it to the way Christopher experiences the world around him. Thoughts?

Welcome!

Welcome to English 5: Voice and Vision (the digital realm), where you will be exploring the voice and vision of many different authors as you work to hone your own voice and vision. This blog will allow you to continue discussions outside of the classroom as well as spark new ones.

I will ask you to post to the blog for certain nightly assignments--this will always be indicated on the assignment sheet. However, I also expect you to submit at least 2 posts and 2 comments for each major text. You will receive a blogging grade at the end of each unit, which will go into my gradebook.

Feel free to post ideas, questions, relevant videos and songs, or anything else you think will give us a deeper understanding of/appreciation for what we are reading.

You may write informally in these posts; above all, I want to hear your voice come through. That said, please make sure you capitalize and punctuate properly--this is a pet peeve of mine.

So, please, take ownership of this blog and use it as a tool to shape you into a better reader, thinker, and writer.
