Serial Format: HBO original series.

Most shows on Tv today, especially series on HBO are in serial form. Shows like the Entourage, True Blood, Hardknocks or Game of Thrones end each week with a twist or preview of the next episode. It usually leaves the person watching the show wanting to know more, and keeps them thinking about it until the next installment. This is similar to the way Dickens ends the first chapter of GE. Dickens leaves the reader anxious to know what's going to happen to Pip.

  1. I agree with you in that HBO original are comparable to GE by Charles Dickens. I remember when The Sopranos was a popular original series growing up. I feel that the series received great success with the audience because of its great story line and how it kept the viewers on their toes. More importantly, each episode sparked debate and conversation in homes, workplaces and many other public social networks. This is very similar to how Dickens sparks debate in English classrooms everywhere in our society.

  2. I believe that FX and HBO shows are very similar. Shows like Rescue Me, and Louie both leave you wondering what the next episode is going to offer, and how it is going to play out. Louie is very hip, modern, and at times, political. Rescue Me was very raw, real, and inspiring. Also, HBO shows like Entourage and Curb Your Enthusiasm both played with the idea of a problem being created right at the moment where an episode, a season, or even a series is about to end.

  3. I feel the same with you on HBO, shows like entourage and true blood are like Dickens Great Expectations, though i dont think a show like hadknocks is similar, as hardknocks is not scripted. Although, I agree that shows like Game of Thrones and True Blood leave you with a cliffhanger that makes you have to see what happens. Dicken's writes in the way that's foreshadows how exciting the next chapters is going to be, just like at the end of shows that show scenes from the next episodes.
