Stay Golden Ponyboy
As I was thinking about Frost tonight it hit me. One of the most memorable movie quotes is actually a line from Robert Frost's poetry. Although we didn't read the poem I'm sure we all know the quote from the Outsider's "nothing gold can stay". The quote is actually the title of one of Frost's poems called precisely "Nothing Gold Can Stay". I just thought that this was a good reading of the poem, and will bring back memories of the fantastic book. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwJ-ppxCGPk

I loved that book, we had to read it in seventh grade. Its interesting that these drastically different authors and pieces of writing use the same expression. The title of that Frost poems suggests that the collection is transitioning into a more realistic period where we will probably not see as much positive personification like in Silken Tent of nature or escapes from reality like in Birches
ReplyDeleteWow, I never knew that that quote was from Frost! It's funny, I said this quote to my mother today (completely randomly) before I had seen this. The Outsiders is my favorite book and I completely agree with you, Rachel.
ReplyDeleteI agree with that totally Rachel Y. I think you'll start to see a more negative, big picture view and tone of the poetry. For example "The Need of Being Versed in Country Things" when we discussed it today came off as a more negative, but detached view of life and nature. I think this could hint at his private life, and even the loss of his wife and dealing with the tragedy.
